Balayage is a hand-painted colouring technique that creates soft, blended lightness through the mid-lengths and ends. It is designed for natural-looking dimension, a smoother grow-out, and a finish that suits your cut, lifestyle, and hair texture.

More information

What balayage delivers

Balayage is about controlled, believable lightness rather than obvious striping. Your appointment is tailored to how you wear your hair day to day.

  • Custom placement for a seamless blend and natural movement
  • A softer root area for easier grow-out and fewer harsh lines
  • Brightening around the face, through the ends, or both
  • Tonal control with a gloss or toner for the right warmth or coolness
  • A finish that works with straight, wavy, curly, and textured hair

When balayage is the right choice

Balayage works well if you want polished colour without committing to frequent root touch-ups.

  • You want a lower maintenance blonde or brunette lift
  • You want dimension without a full head of traditional foils
  • You want face-framing brightness that still looks natural
  • You are growing out previous colour and want a softer transition
  • You wear your hair curly or textured and want lightness that enhances shape and definition

How the appointment works

Your colour is built around your current base, previous colour history, and the end result you want.

  1. Consultation to agree placement, level of lightness, and tone
  2. Sectioning and hand-painted lightener, with careful saturation and blend
  3. Processing time, then cleanse and tone or gloss to refine the shade
  4. Blow dry and finish so you can see the blend and reflect

Plan for around 60 to 120 minutes depending on length, density, and how much lightness you are aiming for.

Aftercare and maintenance

Balayage is designed to grow out softly, but tone and condition still need support.

  • Use colour-safe shampoo and a weekly conditioning mask
  • Consider a toner or gloss refresh between balayage appointments
  • Book a maintenance plan based on how bright you go and how fast your hair grows
  • Keep ends looking sharp with regular trims, especially if you heat style or wear curls.

I had a consultation with Seamus today. Regarding a colour, he was very knowledgeable and straightforward and advised me fully. I would definitely recommend, such a good salon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between balayage and highlights?
Balayage is hand-painted for a softer, more blended result and a gentler grow-out. Traditional highlights usually use foils for more uniform, root-to-end brightness. The best choice depends on how bold you want the lift and how often you want to maintain it.
How long does balayage last?
Balayage typically grows out more softly than foiled highlights, so it can look good for longer between lightening appointments. Many people refresh the tone with a gloss or toner in between to keep it looking polished. Your ideal schedule depends on how bright you go and how you feel about visible regrowth.
Is balayage suitable for curly, coily, or Afro textured hair?
Yes, balayage can work beautifully on curly and textured hair when placement is planned around your shape and shrinkage. The goal is dimension that enhances definition rather than breaking up the pattern. A consultation helps decide where lightness will be most flattering and manageable.
Will balayage damage my hair?
Any lightening can affect the hair, but good technique and correct processing help minimise stress. Your hair’s starting condition and colour history matter, so your plan should be adjusted accordingly. Aftercare with moisture and bond-supporting products will help keep hair feeling strong.
What should I do before my balayage appointment?
Arrive with a clear idea of how bright you want to go and how often you want to maintain it. Be ready to share your colour history, especially any home dye or recent lightening. Bring a couple of inspiration photos that match your hair type and your usual styling.
